General
Compostable means that the materials can be biodegraded under certain conditions – either in an industrial composting facility or in home compost, depending on their characteristics. Compostable products do not leave any toxic residues behind.
Recycling is the process of recovering used waste, or scrap plastic and re-making the material into new products.
Both eco-labels have strict requirements for health, quality, and environment and look at all relevant phases of the product’s life cycle. The essential difference between the two is that the Nordic Ecolabel comes from the Nordic Council of Ministers and is used primarily in the Nordic countries, whereas the EU Ecolabel was established by the European Commission and is used in the EU.
The EU Ecolabel guarantees the same as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. It is your guarantee that a product is produced with care and consideration for the environment. The label has strict requirements for a product’s entire life cycle concerning health, quality, and environment, and looks at; raw materials, product composition and waste, quality, distribution, packaging, and disposal.
When a product is labeled with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel it is your guarantee that the product is produced with care and consideration for the environment. The label has strict requirements for a product’s entire life cycle concerning health, quality, and environment, and looks at; raw materials, product composition and waste, quality, distribution, packaging, and disposal. FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council) is your guarantee that a product is made from raw materials that derive from well-managed forests and responsible sources. Learn more about the FSC here.
Dermatological tests are performed differently depending on which product is tested.
For diapers
All raw materials are tested for skin irritations together with independent and officially approved institutes in Germany. The tests are conducted on 20 persons of whom six have sensitive skin.
For skin care products
The test is done on at least 50 people with different skin types. A sample of the product is placed on a small area of the skin for 48 hours and afterwards the skin is observed. The test is done under observation from a dermatologist.
These tests demonstrate that our products are safe for your baby and live up to our high-quality standards.
Eco-labels focus on environmental considerations and human health (skin-friendliness, dangerous substances, etc.) and do not necessarily say anything about the degradability of a product. That a product is biodegradable is not in itself a proof that a product is sustainable. Products are only proven biodegradable if they are marked with a biodegradable symbol from an official third party institution that has tested the product according to the official biodegradability standards.
Diapers and pants
No, Bambo Nature diapers are not biodegradable. The diapers contain bio-based materials like fluff from wood pulp, but they also contain non-degradable plastic materials. These non-degradable materials are some of the key components of the diaper that ensure a high performance and keep your baby dry and comfortable.
The bio-based material in Bambo Nature diapers is fluff from wood pulp. Our Bambo Nature diapers always contain more than 30% bio-based material (the precise percentage varies with size).

We carefully select all raw materials and ingredients that go into the making of our diapers. We only use ingredients approved according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which means that they are safe for your baby and chosen with care for the environment.
Key components are made from different types of plastics like SAP, PE, and PP; these are common and safe medical grade plastics developed for the health-care industry. These materials are what keep your baby dry and they are all approved by the strict Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Our disposable diapers are carefully designed to keep your baby dry, healthy, and comfortable while affecting the environment as little as possible.
We continuously work on innovating our diapers. We do so by trying to reduce the amount of non-degradable ingredients. We also search for and test more sustainable alternatives that can help us reduce the plastic content in our diapers – without compromising on quality and performance.
All ingredients and materials in our diapers are approved according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The symbol is your guarantee that we use the best possible ingredients for our diapers and that we do not use any substances known to be harmful to your baby’s health or the environment.
No, Bambo Nature diapers should be disposed of together with your household waste.
The diapers are not organic waste, since the only bio-based material in the diaper is the fluff in the absorbent core. The other raw-materials in the diapers are not bio-based and will not decompose in nature. Never dispose of anything in your home compost heap unless the product is equipped with a home compost symbol. 😊
Some countries have specific waste or recycling systems for used diapers. Check with your local authorities.
We do everything we can to make sure that the production of our baby diapers affects the environment as little as possible, without compromising on performance or comfort.
- Our diapers are made in Denmark on energy-optimized machines where 100% of the electricity consumption is covered by renewable energy certificates.
- The raw materials and ingredients are carefully selected and controlled, and they are approved by several official certification agencies like the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the EU Ecolabel, and the FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council).

Like most other disposable products in the world, diapers have an overall negative effect on the environment. We are very aware about this and do everything we can to ensure that our diapers are produced with as much care for the environment as they can possibly be. We thoroughly select our raw materials and ingredients and we use as few materials as possible. Our raw materials and ingredients are constantly checked and they are certified according to some of the world’s strictest certification agencies like the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Furthermore, 100% of our electricity consumption in our Danish production site is covered by renewable energy certificates and since 2009, we have reduced our total CO2 emissions* by 62.1 %.
*CO2 emissions cover electricity, gas and oil and are calculated based on Energinet's and the Danish Energy Agency's standard factors. Calculations of kWh electricity to kg CO2 are based on Energinet's Environmental Declaration. Calculations from l oil and kg gas to kg CO2 are based on the Danish Energy Agency's standards for calorific values and emission factors.
Yes, if you dispose of the diapers correctly with your household waste. In most countries, the diaper waste ends up at waste disposal sites where it is burned and turned into new energy like heat or electricity.
However, some countries have specific waste or recycling systems for used diapers. Check with your local authorities to learn if this is the case where you live.
The last step of the baby diaper life cycle is to dispose of the used diaper responsibly. For some countries, this means sorting it in a separate diaper waste recycling system. For most countries however, the diaper is disposed of together with the normal household waste. This is also called residual waste and it is the part of your household waste that is not recycled.
Residual waste ends up at the municipal waste disposal site, where most of it is burned and turned into new energy like heat or electricity. The share of residual waste that is turned into new energy varies from country to country.
Our Danish production site is ISO50001 certified. This means that we have an energy management system, verified by a third party, and that we continuously work with energy optimization. Today, 100% of our electricity consumption is covered by renewable energy certificates. Since 2009, we have reduced total CO2 emissions* by 62.1 %.

No, our diapers do not contain palm oil.
Bambo Nature diapers size 5 + 6 and the Dreamy Night Pants bear the CE mark and are classified as medical devices, according to European laws (EU/2017/745 MDR). These are our larger sizes, and they could also be used by physically or mentally disabled children, as well as others, who are diagnosed with incontinence. The only differences between the CE marked diapers and the diapers intended for younger babies and toddlers, are the sizes and intended/possible use.
Diapers classified as medical devices (CE marked) are partly subject to public or private insurer’s reimbursement schemes and we would like to offer the best care for any child, regardless of social economic background or place of care (home, hospitals, ambulant pediatrician’s treatment, orphans care units). Check with your local authorities to learn if this is the case where you live.
Yes. Our diapers are vegan. They do not contain any ingredients of animal origin and are not tested on animals. You can find the Vegan Trademark on our packaging as proof of our commitments.
Yes. The wetness indicator is non-sensitizing (minimal risk of skin-irritation or allergies) and is without any toxic and cancerogenic heavy-metal-containing pigments. Our diapers are approved by Asthma Allergy Nordic and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, and completely safe for your baby.
The wetness indicator makes it easy to see when the diaper needs to be changed, as the strip changes color when exposed to liquid.
Skin Care
Our skin care tubes and bottles are made of PP, PE, and LDPE/HDPE. Both tubes and bottles should be recycled with other plastic waste.
Our skin care products are carefully developed for sensitive baby skin and do not contain ingredients that are harmful to your baby or the environment. 99-100% of the ingredients are of natural origin. The products are vegan, contain organic certified ingredients, and are certified according to ECOCERT Cosmos and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
Our skin care products are certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel has evaluated the environmental impact of the products and set requirements in all relevant stages of the products’ lifecycle - for the benefit of the environment, climate, humans, and the earth's resources. Products certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel meet strict requirements on environmental and health properties of chemicals. The requirements on environmental properties cover:
- biodegradability (how the substances can be degraded in nature)
- bioaccumulation (how the substances accumulate in living organisms and thus are not excreted again)
- toxicity towards aquatic organisms.
In addition, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel sets requirements for design of packaging with focus on both limiting material consumption and design of packaging that eases recycling.
Our skin care products contain RSPO certified palm oil. This means that the palm oil in the product was sourced according to rules set by the RSPO*.
*RSPO stands for Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and is a global, non-profit organization. The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce certified sustainable palm oil.
Our skin care products can never be 100% organic. This is because the main ingredient in three of our products (Body Lotion, Soothing Creme and Hair & Body Wash) is water, and water cannot be organic.
The Baby Oil does not contain water, but certified organic oil. The organic content in the four products varies from 20-70%.
This means the product is both marine life and coral friendly. The sunscreen does not contain chemicals that can bleach, deform or ruin the coral reefs or the ecosystems of the oceans.
ECOCERT Cosmos is the first certification body for natural and certified organic cosmetics. This certification ensures that products meet high environmental standards, straight from ingredients to packaging. Read more.
There are two types of filters:
Organic filters: ingredients that penetrate the skin and absorb the energy from the sunbeams, so they do not penetrate to the deeper skin layers and cause damage. Organic filters are absorbed like a normal body lotion. These filters are also called chemical filters.
Inorganic filters: Usually titanium dioxide, but there are also other kinds of inorganic filters. Inorganic filters reflect the rays, like a mirror, preventing them from penetrating the skin. These filters are sometimes also called physical filters, since they are not absorbed by the skin, but form a layer on top of the skin, often making the skin white.
Wipes
Our wet wipes come in new packagings where the plastic foil has been reduced by 20% and the plastic lid has been replaced with a rigid-lid (tape opening). The wipe packaging is recyclable and should be recycled with other plastic waste.
