Week 15

Week 15

During week 15, your baby is rolling around and kicking in your stomach to really test all those muscles. It’s still early, but you might be able to feel small flickers of movement already, especially if this isn’t your first baby.

I like to move it, move it

Your baby is getting more and more active in your uterus during week 15 and is busy absorbing calcium into its bones. Your baby is rolling around and kicking, but the amniotic fluid acts as a pretty good buffer, so you probably can’t feel anything yet. If this is not your first child, you might sense the movements already, but most first-time mothers don’t start to feel movement before week 18-20 of your pregnancy. If you’re one of the lucky ones who feel it early, this is probably a very exciting time. If not, don’t worry – it’ll be your turn soon.

By the end of week 15 of your pregnancy, your baby is around the size of an avocado. 🥑

Gearing up

It’s still pretty early in your pregnancy, but it’s not a bad idea to think about the equipment you’ll need for when the baby comes and to investigate the market. One of the most expensive (and most important) investments is the stroller. Not really for your baby – they’ll be more than comfortable on duvets, mattresses and pillows, trust us – but for you and your needs.

Here are some things to think about:

  • Do you live in a rural area and take walks on gravel paths and in wooded areas? You should probably choose a stroller with very durable wheels.
  • Do you live in a crowded city? Maybe a smaller model, which will be easier to maneuver on a crowded sidewalk or bring onto a bus.
  • There are generally two types of wheels on strollers, fixed and swivel. The fixed wheels make the stroller better for rougher terrain, while the swivel wheels make the stroller easier to maneuver. On some strollers you can get a combination, as they come with swivel wheels that can be locked into a fixed position.
  • What kind of car do you drive? It’s pretty important to choose a stroller that fits in your trunk.

Remember to pamper yourself

Don’t forget to pamper yourself when you’re pregnant – you’re growing an entire little human being, you deserve it! Some things, like extremely hot baths and sauna-visits, are not recommended during pregnancy, but there are plenty of other options out there for you, and self-pampering can mean different things for different people.

The simple day-to-day joys can be taking a nap, ordering take-out, sitting with your feet up for 20 minutes or maybe hiring a cleaner to help clean your house (it will only get harder for you to move around from now on).

It’s also more than OK to get a manicure and/or pedicure; in fact, your feet and legs will probably thank you for that extra attention – they’ll be carrying a lot more weight soon. You can also get massages and facials, just make sure to tell the staff that you’re pregnant so they can adjust their treatment accordingly.
